Sen. Pat Roberts said yesterday during the CIA nomination briefing yesterday "There are no civil liberties when you are dead." To which I say, if you have no civil liberties you might as well be dead.

So if someone held a gun to your head and told you they were going to take away your civil liberties or else, you'd say "fire away"? Either that's bullcrap or you've more conviction than most.

I don't think that's the issue. If someone says they are going to kill me or take my civil liberties thats different than saying they must take my civil liberties to protect me. The intention is entirely different. The outcome may be the same either I have no civil liberties or I'm dead. However, in one I fight against both the authority which takes my liberties in the name of protecting me and those trying to kill me (note that those trying to kill me are in fact not worried about my civil liberties, they are only trying to killed) in the other I am a complete prisoner no matter what, I have no choice of fighting back.
